Piaget artisans apply the complex Grand Feu enamel technique to depict the tiger image on a new series of watches.
Piaget has just launched the Year of the Tiger version, with 38 pieces featuring the roaring tiger image. The representative of the Swiss watch brand said they always cherish Asian culture, and for the past 10 years, they have continuously introduced limited designs at the beginning of each lunar year.
On the basis of the Altiplano, artisans portrayed the image of the mighty king of the jungle using the Grand Feu cloisonné enamel technique. “In a 38 mm 18K white gold case set with 78 round-cut diamonds, each is a work of art,” the brand representative said.
Anita Porchet – one of the few artisans who masters the complex enamelling technique – personally makes each piece by hand. Each dial requires dozens of hours of labor. First, the artist uses thin gold threads to create relief lines on the dial.
Next, the artist uses goose feathers to cover the surface with different colored glazes, layer by layer. Between each layer is a firing process at temperatures ranging from 820°C to 850°C, helping the enamel layer liquefy and bond with the metal.
Controlling color and temperature to create desired images is the artisan’s secret, aiming for a work of art with impressive durability over time.
Also during the New Year, Piaget also introduced the Possession watch model with Tet colors and luck for women according to Eastern concepts. The design is suitable as a New Year’s gift, focusing on the 18K rose gold case, mother-of-pearl dial, ruby indexes and rotating bezel.
Ladies can create a coordinated look with a jewelry set that includes rings, bracelets, earrings and a Possession necklace… with diamond, carnelian and black ceramic details.
