To celebrate the brand’s 140th anniversary, Alpina is introducing a limited edition model (Ref. AL-525CH4AE6B) inspired by the color coding of the historic logo in collaboration with Chronos, WatchTime’s sister publication.

‘Alpina turns 140 years old in 2023 and in honor of the occasion, the Swiss watchmakers will present a watch in collaboration with Chronos. A vintage-inspired watch, featuring 1930s-influenced colors and the original, iconic Alpina logo.’

Fourteen years after the successful launch of Frederique Constant, Peter Stas and his wife Aletta Stas-Bax decided to acquire Alpina Watches, a Swiss sports watch manufacturer dating back to 1883 (the trademark ‘Alpina’ is registered in 1901). Today, the Alpina brand is part of the Citizen Watch Group portfolio and with a focus on sportier models, the group is continuing the brand’s approach to rugged, well-made sports watches. first introduced in the 1930s.

For 2022, Alpina has introduced a new design for its ‘ultimate’ watches , which first debuted almost 20 years ago (originally called ‘Avalanche’ ). With the introduction of the integrated steel bracelet soon after, the current Alpiner Extreme can also be seen as a callback to the cushioned shape of Alpinit from the 70s. Alpina’s triangular logo, symbolizes Alpine peaks, used as a mesh on the dial as well as around the rounded bezel with six screws. The case measures 41mm x 42.5mm and has a glossy finish, a thick crown at 3 o’clock and a transparent case back, and is water resistant to 200 meters.

Using the Alpiner Extreme as a foundation, this color code was then used for the latest variation: the Alpina mountain triangular embossed dial is eggshell blue and creates contrast with the midnight blue and rubber coating of the crown, while white luminous material on the hands and indexes represents snow. And the red Alpina triangle not only serves as a counterweight to the seconds hand but also symbolizes the brand’s homeland, Switzerland.

The Alpina Alpiner Extreme x Chronos is limited to 140 pieces and can be ordered on alpinawatches.com for $2,195. Delivery is expected in January 2024.
