Lamborghini SC63 LMDh is the most advanced hypercar of the super cow company that was just introduced at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The SC63 LMDh is a racing machine that Lamborghini has been teasing for months. However, this year 2023 Lamborghini still missed the appointment and had to wait until 2024 for the SC63 warrior to officially compete with the Ferrari 499P – the car that just won the 24h Le Mans championship.
The LMDh hybrid hypercar racing format of the Global Auto Racing Federation (FIA), including the legendary Le Mans 24h race is a race of intelligence, strength and technology where many famous car manufacturers participate.
At first glance, you will hardly recognize this as a Lamborghini! Because cars competing in the LMDh format are forced to comply with their own rules. The designs of the models are similar, but still have Lamborghini identification thanks to the newly launched Revuelto-style front LED light strip and wheel arches.
Meanwhile, the triangular air vent has a Countach style, hexagonal and Y-shaped taillight clusters…
The highlight of the SC63 is the giant spoiler along with Verde Mantis blue exterior paint with racing stripes and Italian flag motifs. As a racing car, the SC63’s body is made from carbon fiber.
The car frame is made from carbon from Liger – one of the frame suppliers of LMDh racing cars that meets FIA standards.
Powering this car is a brand new Lamborghini engine, built specifically for the LMDh racing project. The 3.8L twin-turbo V8 engine block with external turbocharger ensures cool temperatures, ease of maintenance and optimal weight distribution.
Lamborghini does not announce the power of this engine, but in hybrid form, the total maximum capacity of the SC63 LMDh must be less than 671 horsepower.
The hybrid package includes an electric motor and battery with Bosch electronic control. All LMDh cars use the same gearbox, but Lamborghini has adjusted the gear ratio to best suit the SC63.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: “The SC63 is the most advanced racing car Lamborghini has ever produced, following the brand’s Direzione Cor Tauri roadmap for electrifying the model.
The opportunity to compete in some of the biggest endurance races in the world with hybrid prototypes guides our vision for the future of high-performance mobility.
The proof is the birth of the road-legal car – Revuelto. The SC63 LMDh will step up to the plate and look towards the future of Squadra Corse motorsport.”
The last two SC63 race cars will appear on the track. One of them will compete in the full season of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2024, while the other will compete in the North American Endurance Championship – IMSA.
Both SC63 race cars will become part of the Iron Lynx team, which has experienced drivers who have taken the reins of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo 2 in IMSA and European GT World Challenge series.
However, the SC63 is not yet ready for racing. Testing will continue until the car’s official launch in the 2024 season.
Lamborghini will join drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli in their quest for glory, as well as newcomers from the world of F1 such as Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean.
