This year G-Shock will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of the iconic Frogman Collection with the launch of the GW8230NT-4. The fiery red is the brand’s second model commemorating the original 1993 release and is directly inspired by the 2nd generation Frogman DW8200NT that first appeared in 2000. The GW8230NT-4 maintains the carried over features that the powerful Frogman is known for, while introducing contemporary aesthetics and new technical features.
The exterior is asymmetrical, with each side of the case featuring different buttons and capabilities. Measuring 52mm x 50.3mm x 18mm, it feels sturdy on the wrist yet remains comfortable thanks to its lightweight plastic construction. It is made from eco-friendly bio-based resin with a vibrant red color that continues throughout the entire integrated strap. The Frogman name is printed along the left side of the bezel, while the diving frog logo has a home on the strap just below where it meets the bezel. On the back, the diving frog logo is also engraved on the back case, along with the words “30th” to commemorate the birth of Frogman.
The digital dial layout is similar to its predecessors, featuring three distinct sections, each representing different functions. Using push buttons on either side of the box, users can scroll through each function and they will be displayed on the screen. To ensure legibility, the dial features a Super Illuminator, which is a high-brightness LED that illuminates the surface in all lighting conditions. Maintaining previous technology, the dial also supports Tough Solar charging technology that uses an external light source to harvest energy and reduce the need for battery changes.
Complying with G-Shock standards, the new Frogman is shockproof and waterproof to a depth of 200 meters. The full list of features includes durable solar technology, dual LED light, 60-minute countdown timer, 1/100 (24-hour) stopwatch, dual time, daily alarm, day/date display, dive functions (dive time and surface interval), log data (dive start date and time, dive duration), tide graph and power link capability smart phone.
Price for the G-Shock Frogman GW8230NT-4 is marked at $620.
