French watchmaker Bell & Ross has kicked off the new year with a number of bronze-clad executions, from the BR 03-92 Diver White Bronze to the eclectic BR 01 Cyber Skull Bronze. The latter is a pioneering addition to the brand’s Cyber Skull collection that first launched in 2009 and now has an ultra-modern silhouette. After nearly 15 years in existence, the latest model made its debut in February and was most recently shown at the 2023 Watch & Wonders Show aimed at haute horlogerie enthusiasts and has a limited edition of 500 pieces.

The case shape is typical of Bell & Ross Design in its generally square shape, although it has a bit of personality with the corners connected by smaller-than-usual screws. Measuring 45mm x 46.7mm and 13.7mm tall, this watch looks impressive on the wrist. Its exterior is made from bronze, an alloy that is a dynamic mixture of copper and tin. By choosing bronze, Bell & Ross is effectively creating differentiation between each model because the appearance of the alloy continually evolves over time.

The dial is appropriately skeletonized, with the skull sculpture in the center as the main focus. It comes in rose gold-plated brass with four femurs extending to each corner of the case. Located at 12 o’clock is balance, interrupting the sculpted dial with just a side-by-side indication of the life within the watch. Ticking away on the dial are gold-plated metal-framed hands filled with Super-LumiNova®.

Powering this skull-decorated watch is the in-house BR-CAL.210 movement. The hand-winding mechanism of the mechanism activates the automatic feature, in which the jaws of the skull become active when the crown is rotated. With its skeletonized layout, the movement is almost completely concealed by the bronze skull, as the plates and bridges mimic its shape and extend under the four outstretched femurs. Regarding the timekeeping function, the movement is capable of indicating hours and minutes.

The Bell & Ross BR01 Cyber Skull Bronze is available now on the brand’s website for $11,400. Production is limited to 500 pieces.
