In the 2023 F1 season in Bahrain, Aston Martin DBX707 Medical Car (medical car) and Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car (safety car) will appear at the opening race.
In March 2021, Aston Martin and AMG signed a multi-year partnership with the FIA to provide Safety and Medical Vehicles in the F1 – Formula 1 tournament. For the upcoming 2023 championship, the manufacturer British Auto will supply the Vantage Safety Car that has been used in previous seasons, along with the new DBX707 medical car in place of the standard DBX.
The two safe models both have Aston Martin Racing Green exterior color and Lime Essence yellow motifs. On the hood of the car there are additional signal lights. The colors of the safety car and medical car are the same as the race cars driven by two-time F1 champion Fernando Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll.
We’ll soon meet them for the first time this weekend in the opening race in Bahrain. To perform this task, the Coupe and SUV are equipped with special equipment. For DBX707 there will be a fire extinguisher, medical bag and pacemaker. Additionally, the original seats and harnesses have been replaced with FIA approved racing seats and 6-point harnesses.
The vehicle’s medical department can connect to the race control unit and accurately track each racer’s biometric data as well as racetrack images. This helps in early assessment of an accident. Hope this doesn’t happen often.
The exterior of the DBX707 medical vehicle has an upgraded front grille, rear spoiler and rear diffuser in a sporty style. The side of the car stands out with 23-inch alloy wheels.
Aston Martin DBX707 Medical version uses a 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine, producing a maximum capacity of 707 horsepower and maximum torque of 900 Nm. Combined with AMG’s MCT 9G-TRONIC 9-speed transmission and wet clutch, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and a maximum speed of 310 km/h.
The Aston Martin Vantage safety car is performing the mission for the third time. The power of the Vantage is the same as the 2022 season, the car is upgraded based on the Vantage F1 Edition version with a 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine for 535 horsepower and 685 Nm of torque. Combined with ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, maximum speed of 314 km/h.
The stunning Aston Martin Vantage sports car will be driven by Bernd Mayländer. Meanwhile, the driver of Urus’s rival model – Aston Martin DBX707 will be Alan van der Merwe.
Mercedes has not yet revealed what car they will deploy this year, but they used the AMG GT Black Series as a safety car last year when the GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe had medical car duty.
In 2023, the F1 championship will consist of 23 rounds, starting with the Bahrain Grand Prix at Sakhir on March 5 and ending with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at Yas Marina on November 26. The season was supposed to have 24 races, but the Chinese Grand Prix was canceled in December due to the pandemic.
